OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Monument Primary School accommodates learners from Grade R to Grade 7, setting a strong foundation for their high school years. Strongly aligned to CAPS, the curriculum at Monument Primary is responsive to both a dynamic and shifting South African and global context, aiming to develop the numeracy, reading, writing, comprehension, creative, critical thinking, problem solving and research skills of learners. A wide range of subjects including English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology, History, Geography, Technology, EMS, Life Orientation and Creative Arts is offered. Learners are encouraged to become independent thinkers and are empowered with life and EQ skills. The foundation and core of the curriculum is underpinned by Christian values.

Learners are encouraged to pursue excellence in all aspects of their academic experience at the school, and have gone on to represent the school proudly in numerous local and national competitions. Spelling Bees, Speech and Drama competitions, Eistedfods, Conquesta, Math & Science Olympiads and Chess challenges appear to be high demand as the global restrictions are lifted.

TOP 20

To facilitate improved learning, classes are small and the teacher-learning ratio is 1:30. Additional academic support is offered in study groups under the direction of a teacher. Where and when academic or social challenges arise amongst our learners, remedial support is provided.

Embedded in the culture at Monument Primary is the idea of celebrating and rewarding achievement and continuous improvement. Learners receive numerous awards in annual honours evenings for obtaining exceptional grades in various subjects, for unselfish service, leadership and perseverance.
